Last Community Happenings of the Year
This will be our last Community Happenings of 2017. This year, we've welcomed more than 1,200 new members and celebrated more than 500 one year memberversaries. We'll be back next year to share more highlights of happenings throughout the Ciena Community, welcome new members and celebrate even more memberships.
I will be taking some time off to enjoy the holiday and celebrate the new year with family and friends beginning this week. I encourage everyone to follow your forum (find them here) and help other members as they ask questions, but please know that our community SMEs will around to help. If you need immediate assistance, contact Ciena Technical Support or your account team.
Now that I have all of that out of the way... SEASON'S GREETINGS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thank you all for being a member, it has been a great year and I look forward to getting to know you all more in 2018.

This Thursday, December 21st will be the winter solstice. In the Northern Hemisphere it will be at 11:28 M ET. The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year and the official beginning of winter, while solstice itself is the moment the sun is shining farthest to the south, directly over the Tropic of Capricorn. Even though we officially enter winter this week, the good news is that the days will gradually get longer until the summer solstice. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the sun to be out a bit longer each day.

In 1995, on December 15th, the AltaVista search engine, developed by researchers at Digital Equipment Research Laboratories, was launched. AltaVista was the first world wide web search engine with significant popularity. AltaVista was the most popular search engine until Google overtook it in 2001. Yahoo! eventually purchases AltaVista in 2003. Do you remember using AltaVista?
