ACE Spotlight: Joost Witlox

We’re excited to introduce to you a new Ciena Community ACE. Everyone, meet Joost Witlox. Joost, meet everyone. Joost has been in the industry for more than 20 years and started, after he left the Dutch Royal Navy, as a Radar/Sonar Engineer. Today, he’s a Technical Consultant at Telindus where works another one of our ACEs, Tom Engels

What is your current role? How did you get started in the industry?

I'm a Technical Consultant at Telindus in the Netherlands. I help and advice our installation and commissioning team in their daily job and together with our Telindus ACE, Tom Engels, I am developing and deploying more and more Ciena products in our customer solutions.


I have been working in the Telco industry for more than 20 Years. After I left the Dutch Royal Navy, where I served as a Radar/Sonar engineer, I started at Nortel as a commissioner on all their SDH & DWDM equipment for the region European Nordics. After about 6 years, I left Nortel and started at Telindus. Firstly, performing the same job as a commissioner and during the years I grew towards the role of where I am right now.

What projects, or initiatives, are you looking forward to working, or you’re most proud of accomplishing?

Working a new DWDM deployment involving CDC and other new features. Carrier Ethernet networks involving SAOS based devices and solutions.


If we ask your friends and family, what would they say you do at work?

I am building the internet BACKBONE.


What’s your favorite breakfast cereal?

Chocolate flakes (typically Dutch)
