Tuesday started early and swiftly. Hackathon participants loaded up on breakfast sandwiches, and cakes, and quickly broke off into their respective groups to begin working on their projects.
The mood was electric and jovial as participants attacked whiteboards to begin diagramming their solutions. All of the teams reached out early to seek insight from Ciena's team of floating experts who are participating to help the participants realize their designs.
Bruce Rigaud introduced the first of a series of Lunch and Learn's was delivered by Bo Rothwell and Casey Boyles from Ciena's delivery and learning teams. The focus of the presentation was to inform the hackathon participants about the changes in Ciena's Learning Development / Delivery process, and the new E-Learning System that has been deployed by Ciena Learning that includes 100's of hours of on demand vILT and ILT training offerings. Participants were pleased to learn that there were 3 graduated skill levels of courses; Discover, Develop, and Achieve level courses for 3 different series of course packages; Packet, Packet Optical, and Network Automation.
After a thorough presentation, and some choice salads and sandwiches, teams broke off into their afternoon sessions to begin to implement many of their designs from the morning session. Teams worked happily as the sun faded and the clouds rolled in here in Atlanta. There were contented smiles on the faces of participants as they headed out for dinner knowing that they had accomplished many of their goals, picked up many new skills, and solidified a volume of concepts.
In the backs of their minds though, all of the teams are aware.... 4 Teams enter... and 1 Team leaves the Hackathon Thunderdome with the Hackathon prize.
Developers gonna develop.
