Ciena’s Emulation Cloud™ is an open application development environment designed to help customers and third-party developers create, test, and fine-tune customized applications.

Requirements for flexibility and programmability are increasing to accommodate new web-scale traffic demands stemming from cloud-based services, content distribution, and new IT services emerging from virtualization. A new generation of networking platforms is being designed for this shift to webscale IT. These platforms support new operational models by incorporating high degrees of programmability and open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

The Emulation Cloud was designed to unlock the full potential of these APIs by providing a development portal where customers can innovate and develop new applications without investing in IT infrastructure. It is a one-stop shop for all of a developer’s needs when creating new tools with Ciena’s rich and open APIs. Much like a smartphone and its related application development environment, the Emulation Cloud can be used to design any application that leverages Ciena’s APIs, such as apps for enhanced network visualization, fault and capacity event notification, data center cluster management, or even detailed performance monitoring.
