A recent study by McKinsey of Women in the Workplace found that women remain underrepresented at the top of corporations globally; accounting for just 16 percent of the members of executive teams in the United States, 12 percent in the United Kingdom and 6 percent in Brazil on average. However, study after study find that gender diversity in the workplace results in superior team dynamics and productivity and leads to better financial results.
Women@Ciena is an initiative that promotes gender diversity within Ciena by encouraging women to take the steps necessary to make the most of their careers, from onboarding new talent, coaching, and mentoring to career planning, development, and progression, as well as reaching the executive level.
While chiefly addressing the need to encourage more women in technology, the initiative is open to everyone. Its goal is to foster diversity within Ciena and the broader community, including providing a framework for encouraging understanding, inclusion, and advancement for people in various other categories, such as age and ethnicity. Everyone is encouraged to participate in and take advantage of the benefits of this network.
The Women@Ciena forum has been created as a way to extend these efforts outside of Ciena and build a diverse community that enables and encourages networking, professional development and local community engagement opportunities. We hope that this social community enables the sharing of ideas and experiences to help members excel in their careers, empower the voice of women and improve diversity across multiple organizations.
