I would like to know whether SDN(software defined networking) is applicable for optical transport network(Like for DWDM/ROADM/OTN network). If yes what is the used case. Please explain.
SDN is definitely applicable for optical transport networks - SDN is applicable any time you want to centralize control and use software to control and manage the underlying hardware (or virtual) network elements end-to-end (vs. going to each element directly and doing things piecemeal). This enables the operator to leverage the programmability of the infrastructure, to optimize network peformance across the entire network, much more simply. The general concept is explained at: What is Software-Defined Networking (SDN)? - Ciena
Example use cases are well described in the Liquid Spectrum App Note http://media.ciena.com/documents/Liquid-Spectrum-AN.pdf
