I know this is possible with a tunable module (OTR/OCLD), but i'm curious if I can by pass those and connect directly into a CMD ->WSS?
Hi James, welcome to the community - we're glad you're here! I'm sharing your question with our 6500 and Converged Packet Optical community members should they have any insights to share with you. I'll continue to monitor your question to make sure you receive a response too.
H James , This is supported, providing you have purchased the applicable foreign wavelength license.
There are additional settings that must be performed when provisioning, which are discussed in the 323-1851-310 section of the Ciena Technical Practices, which can be found on your my.ciena.com page. A search for "foreign" in that document will yield a number of them. Note that there are two options - "Foreign" and "Foreign Coherent". Foreign is 10/40G, and "Foreign Coherent" would be for higher rates. Typically, you'd also want to get the link validated by our internal OPNet team to ensure functionality. You can work with your SE / Account Manager to capture all the required TX / RX parameters to model the signal over the Ciena line.
Others may have more insight.
EDIT: To note, the wavelength going into the CMD HAS to be a DWDM signal - tunable, or fixed. It cannot be a gray wave. If that was your question, I apologize for making the answer more complex than necessary.
