I am new to the Z-Series but am going to be using ERPs around our network and wondering if I should be turning on Loop Detection.
Loop Detection is a new feature in 9.0, and requires a cold boot of the PSW cards to activate it. That's why you had to reboot. Loop Detection isn't required, but it's a nice-to-have in case a loop somehow develops in your ring. Loop Detection does need to be enabled at all PSW cards participating as add/drop points around the ring. Each ERP requires a unique service tag to be used for Loop Detection.
Welcome to the forum !
ERPs through the nature of the protocol will have loop prevention, and the loop detection mechanims are improvements to the Z-Series implementation being rolled into the latest releases. Avoiding loops in layer 2 networks is essential, so this is something that you would want to turn on. What version are you deploying ?
We just upgraded our nodes to version 9.0.01. If I enable loop detection on the RPL owner node do I need to enable it on all the other nodes in the ring as well? I'm guessing I do.
First tried to enable loop prevention and got an error stating I needed to reboot our PSW cards. Rebooted all cards on all nodes since it wasn't done after software update. Got loop prevention setup, tested and was successful. Not sure what is best practice but I assumed I had to put a different service tag on each ERP ring we had. All tested successfully. Looks like we are ready for some traffic!
