Has anyone sucessfully be able to get a working ISL between two Brocade 6520s working across Ciena 6500s? If so can you tell me if you had to change anything to get it to work?
After 8 months of not being able to use our new Ciena hardware, we finally get this resolved. Come to find out there is an issue with Borcade and Ciena compatibility with version 11.1. We updated to 11.2 and the problem disappeared. It would have been nice to find out about this version since it was released in 2016.
Hi Brian, I've moved your question to our 6500 forum. We may have some members here that have experience to share with you. I'll also include this question in our weekly Share Your Experiences post highlight open questions in the community.
Welcome to the Ciena Community!
Unfortunately neither Brocade nor Ciena provides a simply to understand required configuration settings guide to interop betweenthe Brocade SAN switches and Ciena. It's frustrating. Brocade'slast interop guide offers no guidance beyond pointing to Ciena'sweb site. Much of interop testing for DWDM type equipment isperformed by DWDM vendors.
I offer the following experience with a disclaimer of how it may or
may not work for your environment.
In my case, I worked with a customer whose environment was: Ciena 6500 with module Card 4X10G OTR 4xXFP/4xSFP+ Brocade switch is 16Gb DCX 8510-8 at FOS v7.4.1b. ISL port set to 8Gb to Ciena 6500 using standard Brocade shortwave SFP. The Brocade was providing R_Rdy, Ciena was simply doing pass-through of whatever Brocade sent (primitives, data frames, etc). Buffer credits were adjusted on the Brocade ISL port per distance, speed and frame size settings. Note: I read if Brocade is 10Gb E-port VC_Link_Init_mode should be disabled off due to compatibility issue. On the local and remote Brocade DCX 8510-8 the 8Gb E-port to Ciena was configured as:
portcfgshow :Octet Speed Combo 1 Speed 8G <- hard setAL_PA Offset 13 .. Trunk Port ON Long Distance LS VC Link Init .. Locked L_Port - Locked G_Port ON Disabled E_Port .. Locked E_Port .. ISL R_RDY Mode .. RSCN Suppressed .. Persistent Disable .. LOS TOV mode 0 NPIV capability ON NPIV PP Limit 126 NPIV FLOGI Logout .. QOS Port .. EX Port .. Mirror Port .. Rate Limit ON Credit Recovery ON Fport Buffers .. Eport Credits .. Port Auto Disable .. CSCTL mode .. D-Port mode .. D-Port over DWDM .. Compression .. Encryption .. FEC ON FEC via TTS .. Fault Delay 0 SIM Port .. Non-DFE .. TDZ mode ..
Hey Brian, did Douglas' suggestions help? Eager to hear an update from you.
Excellent, glad to hear you were finally able to get it resolved, Brian! Thank you for the update and feedback too. Do you have a preference, or recommendations, on how you'd like to hear about new releases from us (i.e. email, community, service portal, etc.)?
do you have the releasenotes of 11.2? do you know which change make the 11.2 work? thanks.
