What is the difference between BDI and FDI?
BDI is Backward Defect Indication and FDI is Forward Defect Indication, similar to RDI & AIS respectively in SDH/SONET.
For example, consider below connectivity:
A (OADM) <-----> B (Amp) <-----> C (Amp) <-----> D (OADM)
In case of single fiber cut from B Tx to C Rx, there would be OMS-FDI alarm at D node & OMS-BDI alarm at A node.
BDI Backward Defect Indication
FDI Forward Defect Indication
To my understand shese acronym usedon SDH/SONET technology to verify what sense is the issue, BDI (before element issue) FDI (after element issue)
Hi sultan, looks like Leonardo and Sumit were able to address your question. Let us know if you have any follow up questions on BDI and FDI.
In addition to above answers..
FDI alarm is OTN alarm.
FDI alarms reported in different layers of OTN frame like OCH_FDI i.e forward defect at the OCh layer , OMS_FDI i.e Forward defect indication at OMS Layer and also MPLS TUNNEL_FDI indicates tunnel forward defect.
